Executive Coaching is a process where busy executives invest time to Stop, Assess and Align their actions, behaviors, and deliverables with those that support the greater good of an organization, including its people and client base.
In his book, “The Advantage”, Patrick Lencioni discusses the need for a Rally Cry. Patrick defines a Rally Cry as: a thematic goal for an organization – a clear direction for the entire organization for a fixed period of time determined by answering the question, “What is most important right now?”
As a leader, what is your temporary Rally Cry during this uncertain time? What is your central focus and or goal that is prioritized above all other competing needs?
Once you have your goal identified, you and your team need to align to ensure the communication and behaviors demonstrated around “what is the most important thing now” are intentional. This is not a time for unorganized and chaotic leadership. Focusing on the few critical goals and cascading that information throughout the organization in a planful cadence is essential.
People need their psychological needs met now more than ever. They need rituals, habits, information, and guidance around working remotely. They need leaders who can lead from a place of presence, vulnerability, clarity, empathy, self and relationship awareness. This is critical now.
As we lead during this time of uncertainty it is more important than ever to “walk the talk”. When this is over, and it will be over, who will remain loyal to you and your organization? What are you doing now to ensure the retention of your top talent and external client base? Are you demonstrating leadership in an intentional way and is it worth the risk if you are not? One thing I know for sure, you will see the impact of your current leadership style & prioritized actions when this crisis is over.
What is your Rally Cry? What are you prioritizing and what is your intentional plan for execution?
